On May 14th, Tahoe Mountain Sports converted their store into a presentation space, where DPMR settled in to learn about the online mapping tool, Caltopo.com from me, Renee Elsdon Jacobs, who happens to be the founder’s wife! As you might imagine, I use Caltopo extensively for everything from training runs to multi-day adventures. As always is the case when DPMR gets together, it was a fun social event, even though the focus was on education.

Because most of the attendees were self-described newbies to Caltopo, all of the basics were covered, from the general layout of the user interface, to how to create lines and markers. We also discussed more advanced techniques, like using some of the extensive overlays to analyze current snow (or smoke!) conditions, or weather forecasts.
