Intro by Bruna Bradford, DPMR President
I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I met Pam, but I’ll never forget the energy she brought to our post-run socials on Tuesday nights. Pam is the definition of a “Tuesday Social” athlete. While many are focused on ultra-marathon PRs or lightning-fast splits, Pam is there for the pure magic of the movement: the fresh air, the community, and the shared adventure.
Whether she’s jogging, walking, or carving lines on her snowboard, she brings a radiant positivity that lights up the trail. From backcountry split-boarding missions (love backcountry with her) to casual neighborhood laps, she is the ultimate companion. I’m so grateful our paths crossed—Pam is someone who can turn a stranger into a friend in a single mile. And if you like cars, you need to talk to her and ask about her badass black cadillac.

Where are you from and where do you live now?
I grew up in Northern Nevada and live in Kings Beach.
When did you begin running and/or long-distance running, if that applies? Why?
I joined DPMR last summer to help me train for an adventure race earlier this year in New Zealand.
Do you race? Does racing motivate you? If not racing, what motivates you?
I have done a few races and at the end of the day, I just like being outside. There is nothing like a fresh dose of sunshine!
Do you have any dream races (either hoping to qualify for or get selected for)?
I would like to train for a multiday event…maybe something international. I am open to ideas if anyone has suggestions!
What was the best running advice you’ve received?
Your brain will give up before your body does.
Do you have a favorite on-trail food or nutrition strategy and favorite post-run meal or beverage?
Stroopwaffles always make it at least 1% better. Peanut butter and jelly is a staple when outside adventuring for me too.
Do you have a favorite recipe to share?
I make jello molds.
What was your favorite recent running experience?
I really enjoyed doing an accidental half marathon last year at Mountain Tiger! It looks like they updated the mileage this year to be closer to what the trail marking distance is.
What was your most challenging/ character-building running experience?
The full day adventure race in New Zealand was extra special as it was 11 hours of completing challenges with my cousins as team mates. It was not only a full day of physical activity but it was also communications and managing personalities. The goal was to start and finish as friends – mission was successful!

What are your upcoming racing/adventure plans?
I have been experimenting with increasing distance and then I might look at signing up for something with long days and mileage. Nothing in the books now but I am happy to join any powerhikers wanting a long day with some fun elevation.
What do you do for a living? Is it hard to fit in time for training?
I am a remote software consultant. I am at my computer and desk all day. The best part of my day is when I get to close my laptop and go play outside.
What led you to join DPMR?
A friend suggested to group as I was looking for something to keep me on track for my last race.
What has been your favorite DPMR experience so far?
Book club – come and find out why!
Favorite local trail?
I enjoy going out on the trails behind my cabin in Kings Beach – I can walk out of my back yard and straight into nature.

Do you have a mental training technique, mantra, or similar that you rely on to combat the mentally trying times of a longer run?
I just remind myself to turn off my brain.
Do you listen to audio while you run and if so, what have you been enjoying lately?
YES! I finished “Born to Run” on a 13 mile hike last week. Otherwise it is typically just a fun playlist of pop songs.
Recovery technique(s) that you swear by?
I love taking naps. Even if it is 20 minutes without screens and just closing my eyes for a bit to recharge.
Do you have a favorite piece of running gear (hydration system, shoe, clothing layer, sock, etc.)?
I like shorts and pants with pockets! I typically take too much stuff with me on hikes so having the pockets helps me keep it more accessible.
What other outdoor or indoor interests do you have?
I like to embroider while watching TV.
Any interesting facts about yourself you would like to share?
I caught a greased pig at the county fair when I was in 6th grade.
