The trail season has started early and it is now time to grow our chances to connect on the trails. Tuesday morning, Tuesday evening, Thursday evening, Friday morning… pick and choose, or don’t choose and do ’em all!! We’ll also connect for runs of various distances before the picnic and some long weekend runs. Check our calendar on the website and socials to stay up-to-date, but here is the general run down. The time indicates what time the run starts.
Tuesday Morning Track, 6:30 AM
Starting on May 5th, we have a weekly track workout meet at the Truckee High School Track to improve your speed and challenge you. These are a mix of workouts focusing on improving pacing and the track is a great place to get quicker. These continue into the fall and are a great way to push yourself with friends around. What’s also great about the track is that it’s for everyone. You’ll run at your own pace and never get dropped.
Tuesday Social, 6 PM (starting with Newbies through May)
For six weeks which started on April 21st, the fun and famous Newbies bring in the energy to kick off the season, as well as the opportunity for shoe demos and of course… raffles! Check out the website for the location as it changes every week to explore different trails around town.
After the conclusion of the Newbies run at the end of May, our regularly scheduled Social runs resume. We meet in Downtown Truckee, just across from Alibi Ale Works and go for a mixed surface run, mostly on trail. We always have a couple of options and runners are encouraged to go their own pace on this no-drop social run. Afterwards, we gather at one of the local spts for socializing and optional food or beer.
Thursday Hills, 6 PM (typically, with some at 5:30)
Starting on May 7th, Thursday evenings are for hills. Meeting location is usually at Cold Stream, but check the calendar on the website in case it needs to be moved. Uphill running is a great way to build your aerobic capacity and improve your running form. These workouts are designed for anyone to be able to drop in and join for a week here and there, or consistently through the summer. They are also structured in a way that welcomes beginners and experienced runners since we are staying together as a group.
Friday Pastry Party on the Trails, 7:30am
Starting May 8th, we’ll have a regular morning run starting and ending at Sierra Bakehouse. You’ll get to kick off your Friday with fellow runners and refuel with some delicious pastries and baked goods. We’ll head to the hill over the Golf course and back. What better way to get your weekend started than a run with DPMR and socializing with coffee and pastries.
Saturday Long Runs, TBA
We are planning one Saturday long run a month starting in June and going into September (the June one will be the day of the Picnic). These will be in a variety of locations and typically are in the 12-15 mile range with a variety of elevation. They’ll highlight different trails and areas and varied skill levels are encouraged to join as long as you feel comfortable with the distance. Typically these will be on the second Saturday of the month.
Got any ideas or interested in helping out with any of these? Let us know and look forward to seeing you out on the trails!
