On Friday evening, January 6th, a group of runners, hikers, and a lone skier gathered at Martis Dam Road to explore the valley around the reservoir by moonlight. Headlamps were worn but hardly needed as the cloud cover thinned. This photo gallery tells a great story…

Snowshoe running season continues into February as we look forward to seeing you at our always-a-good-time-for-all snowshoe run – the Racing Gnome – coming up on Feb 12th!
Want to check out the next full moon on your own? Find a big meadow or valley with unobstructed moonlight views (go well after moonrise when the moon is highest in the sky). Bring your headlamp and snowshoes, or other traction devices, as appropriate for the conditions (microspikes or similar might be all you need if the snow is well packed). DMPR snowshoes are available to DPMR members that have completed the online loaner form. Not sure what to wear? Check out see Coach Peter’s article on basic snowshoe running gear.
