Introduction by Diane Frederic
Fueled by energy and enthusiasm, Eliza is one of DPMR’s newest board members. You can get to know her here and join her and her trail-loving pooch at the upcoming Sunday Fun Runs she’ll be hosting (you can find more info on the runs here).

Where are you from and where do you live now?
Sacramento, CA then lived in SF for 10 years. Now I live in Schaeffer’s Mill in Truckee full-time.
When did you begin running and/or long-distance running, if that applies? Why?
I began running in college when I ran my first marathon to help combat the stress of pre-med courses. When I moved to the Bay Area I got into trail running in Marin County and fell in love with being outdoors where it was beautiful and quiet and that’s when I started getting into longer distance.

Do you race? Does racing motivate you? If not racing, what motivates you?
I participate in races, but just for fun! I’ve never cared about my times, I just love to be out their in the trails with others!
Do you have a favorite on-trail food or nutrition strategy and favorite post-run meal or beverage?
Well, I definitely run for the post-run meal! It definitely depends where I am running. There is this Organic Diner in Marin called Shoreline Cafe, a post-run open-faced tuna melt was always one of my favorites after a day on Mt. Tam. Throughout my runs, depending on the distance, different protein bars (Barbells, GoMacro and Nick Sticks are my go-to’s!), dates stuffed with peanut butter and Rice Krispies.
What was your favorite running experience this past year?
Getting my 68 year old father to run the Mt. Judah loop with me. That… or almost colliding into a family of bears on Martis Loop.
With most races being cancelled this year, do you have your own adventure or virtual race plans?
I’ve done a lot of virtual run contests with my team at work. I can’t let them beat me.
What do you do for a living? Is it hard to fit in time for training?
I run a sales team for a tech company in the Bay – it is very hard to find the time! You’ll find me on the trails either at 6am or 7pm. Last year I ended up buying a refurbished treadmill for our house… it was the greatest investment so I wasn’t always running alone in the dark.
What led you to join DPMR?
I was looking to meet other runners in the community.
Favorite local trail?
Martis Loop or Sawtooth
Do you have a mental training technique, mantra, or similar that you rely on to combat the mentally trying times of a longer run?
Not really, I allow myself breaks to snap a photo or pet my dog, It’s just all about fun for me.
Do you listen to audio while you run and if so, what have you been enjoying lately?
I’m very into podcasts lately while running. “How I Built This” is always a fave. Always looking for NON-murder mystery recommendations though!
Recovery technique(s) that you swear by?
I’ve been pretty into my massages recently and we have a hot tub now and that has been amazing!
What other outdoor or indoor interests do you have?
Biking, Paddling Boarding, Skiing, Backcountry. I really want to learn to outdoor climb and fly fish this summer.
