The right tune can really bring some spunk into your step. While running down Shepherd’s Pass trail at dusk after a long day, “FloriDada” by Animal Collective (169 beats per minute) made me forget my fatigue and literally start dancing down the trail. It’s got a reasonably fast tempo and a strong, driving beat delivered in an upbeat tune. Add it to your running playlist and you might find a little extra spunk in your step too. If you aren’t a fan of music while running, perhaps an audio book would suit you. Check out “Good to Go” by Christie Aschwanden to get up to speed on the latest science of recovery, a timely topic now that most of us have completed our seasonal goals. Even if you are someone that is already well aware that ibuprofen and ice don’t do what most people expect (and can potentially be harmful), you will certainly learn something from this exhaustive, scientific, and critical analysis of recovery methods.
