I felt the excitement of adventure as I snowshoed through the forest hidden in plain sight of Downtown Truckee. After brush-whacking across a creek, I started to see stakes with orange ribbons marked “TRL.” Truckee River Legacy (Trail,) I presume!
I was scoping out the route of the future extension of the Legacy Trail, the paved bike path that currently connects Downtown Truckee east to the Glenshire neighborhood. The planned and staked “Phase 4” of the path will cross Brockway Rd near Cottonwood and continue west towards the mousehole on Highway 89. I descended from the shady forest back to the river and enjoyed the open snow and sunshine next to the river.
Like-minded explorers joined me for a snowshoe hike the next day as part of the Winter River Celebration organized with our friends from the Truckee River Cohousing community. This new neighborhood is under development on West River Street (note: this is not the same as the Railyard development!) Future residents hosted a bonfire and site tour along with DPMR’s group events.
Thanks to those who came out to share a beautiful Tahoe weekend and celebrate our Truckee River!
