On Tuesday, October 23, 2018 (5:30pm – 7:30pm,) Donner Party Mountain Runners presents an educational series event focused on GPS technology – how to use mapping software like CalTopo, wearable devices like Suunto and Garmin watches, Strava, and referencing apps like Avenza Maps and Gaia GPS to improve your mountain running experience.
GPX navigation make your adventure runs safer, exploring new trails easier, and traveling to running “destinations” without a guide a lot more appealing. The technology is HERE – learning how to use it is a great investment in your sport.
Chris Cloyd and Helen Pelster be leading the event to help you learn how to better use these tools to improve your running experience. The event is free and open to all DPMR members – please bring your own laptop and navigation watch (if you’d like to practice some of these tools/tips/tricks in real time.) If you can’t/don’t bring a computer or watch (or don’t yet have one!) that’s okay! There’s still plenty you can learn and socializing with our running community is always awesome.
This event will be held at Old Greenwood’s NEW shared workspace, the Tahoe Mountain Hub. You can learn more about the space at https://oldgreenwood.com/shared-workspace/. The restaurant and bar will be closed during the event, but you are welcome to bring your own food and/or drinks. DPMR will provide light snacks.
