Connie, short for Conestoga, is the new wagon of the Donner Party Mountain Runners. She was named by founding member Paul Sweeney as he was reading “The Hunger,” a fantasy novel based around the historical Donner Party story.
The reinforced storage trailer will serve as a base for race and group run gear throughout the year. Our tireless volunteer crew has been juggling gear and supplies between our offices, garage, and a remote storage space generously shared with us by the Epic Endurance Events trial race management.
The club currently produces a number of events in addition to Castle Peak 100k, our signature race. These are some of the runs that will benefit from the consolidation of gear: Racing Gnome Snowshoe Races, Memorial Day picnic & group runs, Roller Coaster Half Marathon, the Donner Party Half Marathon & 10k, the annual pub-to-pub ultra run, and the season closer member party & runs.
Most of these runs are offered free of charge to the community in support of our mission to inform, inspire, and connect mountain runners in Truckee-Tahoe.
The Board of Directors identified and planned for this purchase in its strategic planning last year. The purchase of Connie marks a significant investment for the club that would not be possible without member support and donations. THANK YOU!
