The call came out via a Facebook event: an opportunity to help clear the Truckee High School track. Since many of us enjoy training on the beautiful new track, lending a hand was an easy sell!
A solid crew of DPMR members showed up along with dozens of other community members to help clear the track with plastic shovels, hoping to get the school Track and Field back training outdoors.
“We asked…you answered,” reported grassroots organizer Rose Weskamp, “…we are so grateful to all of the 50 or so folks who SLAYED the snow and gave our athletes a place to train. We even had KOLO 8 news from Reno there with a film crew.”

Huge thank you to all the DPMR who lended a hand!
If you are looking for other snow-free surfaces on which to run outdoors, also consider these plowed bike paths: the Truckee River Legacy Trail; the Trout Creek trail from Downtown Truckee up to Tahoe Donner; the path along Squaw Valley Rd; and (now – breaking news!) the bike path along 89 from Squaw to Tahoe City.

That was fun, and a great workout! I couldn’t carry big shovelfuls, but I got in nearly six miles walking back and forth with my little scoops for over two hours! 🙂
A HUGE shout out to the DPMR volunteers who came to the track and cleared the snow. Your club rallied and conquered the track. The Track and Field team coaches put out an email today (April 1) that practice will be ON THE TRACK starting tomorrow. They had a meet Fri and Sat in Reno after you slayed the snow on Thurs. They did well and we really expect to see great progress now that they can train properly. I was personally thanked by a runner today while I was clearing the field event areas. Mother Nature has helped and with the exception of 1/2 of the 3rd long jump lane, the entire track is ready to roll. We value and appreciate each and every one of you. Our backs were sore, but our hearts are full. Thanks again~ Rose
