Whether you are looking to hit the trails for a long day, get out for some speedwork, or just socialize with like-minded folks, DPMR has plans all year long to get you out and keep you inspired. Here’s a peek at some of the opportunities we can all look forward to this year!
Group Training Runs
I will be kicking off the year again leading our Spring Speedwork Series. Runs will take place every Tuesday night on the Legacy Trail beginning March 13th. Come join the fun and kickstart your season! Following that series, Peter Fain will lead morning speedwork sessions, with a “no-host” option for the evenings. No matter what level runner you are, nothing gets you back into shape like a little speedwork.
Hillary will be getting out there with our newest group, the DPMR Pacers. This entry-level training group welcomes families and runners of all levels. Runners will have fun and be guided toward summer goals.
In July, look for some trail runs hosted by Sean and Peter to get out and explore the Castle Peak course. In the fall, our popular Alibi-to-Alibi run returns!
Racing and Volunteering
Our signature race, the Castle Peak 100K, returns a week early this year, on August 18. If you’re not already signed up, get on it! And if 100K just isn’t your thing, we have many opportunities for you to become one of our amazing and enthusiastic volunteers!
Many people already had a blast at our first race of the year, the Racing Gnome 5K/10K. We will offer a few more races later in 2018, including the KB Half in June, and the inaugural DPMR Half-Marathon and 10K in July.
Look for us out volunteering, (or better yet, join us!) at these races: The Broken Arrow Skyrace, The Canyons Endurance Runs, Overlook Endurance Runs, and Tahoe 200. There will also be trail work days hosted by DPMR in the spring and summer.
Social Time and Inspiration
Keep your eyes out for ongoing events in our educational series. Past events have included movie nights, slide shows, and awesome speakers. These events are ongoing throughout the season, so check the newsletter and the calendar on our website for more information.
The Memorial Day Picnic, presented by Tahoe Mountain Sports and On Running Shoes, will again be our season opener and celebration where runners and community members gather for trail runs, kids’ races, food, and celebration. If you have been to any of our past picnics, you know that it is a community event not to be missed. This will be our second year at the Prosser Campground group site, which is an incredibly beautiful location with great access to trails and plenty of space for the party. Mark your calendars now!
Our mission at DPMR is to inform, inspire, and connect mountain runners in the region. We hope everyone can find some experiences here to suit your desires, and we hope to see you out on the trail!
