On Sunday, October 11th, sixteen volunteers led by Betsy Nye and Kevin Starr (Truckee Donner Land Trust), joined forces to build a beautiful new section of trail, as part of the new Royal Gorge Rim Trail. Click here for more information about the Royal Gorge area and a trail map.
We parked near the Ice Lakes Lodge and hiked up about a mile, lugging various tools (I somehow managed to not carry anything), to the section of trail we would be working on.

Working in several small groups, some cleaned up the lower sections of already built trail, and the lucky ones got to build the new section.
Around noon, most of us took a break for lunch. A few highly motivated folks couldn’t bare to stop working (trail building is addicting!), so they didn’t.
We continued to work for several hours after lunch, then hiked down to meet Larry from Red Truck Tahoe, who generously treated us to a fantastic after-party with food, drinks, and the most amazing cookies.
