The Castle Peak 100k team has been busy finalizing course details and partnerships for the inaugural event on Saturday, August 29, 2015. The all-volunteer team meets weekly to plan and organize the myriad of details that go into producing an event of this magnitude. The goals are to provide a spectacular course, unparalleled aid station support, and a finish-line experience that celebrates the accomplishment of each runner. The point-to-point course traverses over five land jurisdictions, including public and private organizations. Private partnerships include: Tahoe Donner Association, Truckee Donner Land Trust, Sugar Bowl Resort and Royal Gorge Cross Country. The permitting process is moving forward with Donner Memorial State Park and the Forest Service (USFS).
The course is looking good with just minor tweaks to aid station locations and local routing in conjunction with our land partners. Course Marking Captain Dan Baxley is making the best of the dry trail conditions to travel each section of the course.
Aid Station Director Sean Flanagan is gathering information and volunteers to captain the 12 aid stations along the 100k course. Our neighboring race directors and club members have been generous with knowledge sharing to ensure that the Castle Peak 100k runners have a phenomenal on-course experience.
In addition to aid station help, dozens of volunteers are needed to help with tasks such as registration and check-in, street crossings, on-course safety, cooking, and everything that will go into making the finish-line experience a memorable one. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Lesley Dellamonica at Volunteers@DonnerPartyMountainRunners.com, to learn more.
Registration will be open on UltraSignup with a target date of Sunday, March 15, 2015. Campsites at Donner Memorial State Park are currently available for on-line reservations – click here. Many of the runners and volunteers will be staying in the “Creek Campground” Loop. Hotel lodging discounts will also be published soon.
