First, I would like to officially apologize for jinxing the conditions as it pertains to our lack of precipitation and snow pack. I glowingly bragged in last month’s newsletter that we appeared to be off to a great start for the winter snow season only to see virtually no measurable precipitation in the month of January – or as many of late has called it Junuary!
In an effort to make the best of a bad situation, we at TCER have been working fast and furious to see that our upcoming race, May 2nd, will be an event like no other. Since we last updated DPMR we have added some top notch sponsors to our race. Clif Bars will be providing runners with their nutritional mini Clif bars in an assortment of flavors while GU has also come aboard and generously provided gels, not only for our race, but for all our upcoming training runs. In addition to these two powerhouse companies, TCER is pleased to also have the likes of Fuel 100 and Trail Butter to complement our aid stations with additional nutritional options. Lastly, we are very proud to announce that Fleet Feet Running has also joined us and plans to help us in a variety of ways that will certainly be evident to the runners on race day.
As a young race series we are doing everything possible to promote our event, and in so doing we have planned monthly training runs (weather permitting) on the course to give anyone interested an option, free of charge, to experience the course in a safe, relaxed environment. We had our first one Jan 24th and were blown away by the number of runners who came out and enjoyed the spring like conditions in the Canyons. Our estimate is we had over 80 runners who thoroughly enjoyed distances from 12-26mi out of Foresthill up to The Pump and back. The aid station at Michigan Bluff with the normal fanfare was almost as popular as the free Track 7 beer tastings that were flowing back at the start/finish.
Currently, as I write this piece we have a combined total of 100 registered racers between the two events with permits up to 250. We have every expectation to sell out before the race so if you are on the fence you may just want to pull the trigger! Our next “unofficial” training run will be Feb 21st out of Foresthill School so we hope to see more DPMR runners out for the free event. I mean if there is no white stuff falling from the sky what else should you be doing but hitting some trails?
