My wife and I learned this tasty recipe when gifted some much needed extra calories while hiking the John Muir Trail a few years back. This is a great alternative to gels and energy bars, providing plenty of carbs(simple and complex) and protein/fat for your longer outings!
You can make this recipe in whatever quantity fits your needs and the Almond Butter can be replaced with any nut butter, even Nutella (but you will need to add a little more to absorb the corn flour). I also like to add a little molasses to this recipe sometimes for a little more flavor depth.
2 Parts Corn Flour or Masa ~ Not Polenta because it is too course (Preferably Non- GMO)
2 Parts Honey
1 Part Almond Butter (Salted or Unsalted, Raw or Roasted, Crunchy or Smooth, whatever your preference is)
~ Mix Corn Flour, Honey and Almond Butter until completely blended together and store in a Refillable Squeeze Tube for easy dispensing when on the trail
This does not need to be refrigerated unless being stored for longer than a month.
