Board Member Sam Skrocke is an incredible asset to DPMR! I have known Sam for a decade and a half now. Fittingly, we met for the first time in 1999 as I passed him in the Lake Tahoe Marathon at about mile 20 while climbing out of Emerald Bay and I have been trying to keep pace with him ever since. Sam and I met while running, but it is climbing and back country skiing that was the foundation of our great partnership. It was about 6 months after we met and while on our first real climbing trip together that we figured it out that we had met in the marathon. While Sam has been an amazing play partner over the years, with whom I have pulled off some crazy adventures, it is the loyal friendship that we have formed that I really value.
As this running club was really taking shape and we were seeking out new board members to share in the responsibilities and fun, I could not have been more thrilled than to have Sam express interest in joining us. Sam brings to us the experience of having been part of starting another 501(c)3 non-profit, Biking for a Better World, back in 2006 when he rode his bike from Alaska to Argentina.
Sam is the Business and Partner Coordinator for the club, meaning that he is the one working on getting us all of our awesome local discounts and will also work on getting swag donated for raffles and such.
Sam is the kind of guy that will give you the shirt off his back and shoes off his feet if you need it. I am proud to have him as a friend and now to serve with him on the Board of this club
Sam’s recent success in his Human Powered effort to climb all 15 California 14’ers and riding his bike between all the trailheads is certainly a testament to the perseverance and vision that Sam will bring to the Donner Party Mountain Runners as he serves you as one of our Founding Board Members!
